No. But it does run in families. If one's parent was schizophrenic, their chances of developing it are much higher. Also, schizophrenia usually presents in men when they are in their late teens and 20s. It may not manifest symptoms in women until they are in their 30s.

modern medication can 'manage' schizophrenia. We cannt prevent it until we know we have it, then we manage it.

No you cannot prevent schizophrenia. It is a premediated condition that is inside the brain from birth.
