a short answer, for i am by no means qualified to give detail (a few units of psychology at university is my experience).

OCD from recollection is often entirely related to insecurity, generally stemming from an incident which did not unfurl in a premeditated or intended manner. it can be simple, such as hearing a news report warning of an increasing spate of house breakins leading the individual to completely secure their household - paranoia/insecurity instills a subconscious anxiety which in turn provokes repetitive behaviour as a device through which the person is capable of sufficiently resolving their insecurity until allayed. being an OCD checker could for example result from misplacing an item at one stage, having been undesirably disorganised previously, or merely having taken a story to heart regarding someone else having misplaced something - and plausibly these are lost within memory or subconscious today.

i can recall a case of a regressive subject, in which a child burnt their hand upon a hot kettle, requiring hospital treatment. the mother, anxious as a result of her belief that her lack of attendance towards the child caused such a mishap (the child recovered physical completely), resorted unawaringly to compulsive, and obsessive sterilisation of all metal objects in her kitchen - her subconscious had regressively associated the kettle with general negativity, leading her to obsessively clean kitchen items to ensure all "germs" were thoroughly removed. this problem persisted with her for a substantial period of time, without her realising why it was she was insecure regards the cleanliness of the kitchen.

point I'm attempting to make :) is that OCD often is a product of insecurity. once secure in the knowledge that success has been attained on the first action, further, iterative actions to ensure the desired situation (whether that is the cleanliness of a kettle, or the proper location of items) are redundant. thus, if anyone is seeking a non-pharmaceutical treatment for OCD, from personal experience (as someone never diagnosed with OCD but believing myself to perhaps have some minor variant of the disorder due to an O&C to check over my shoulder), is to stop that person during their obsessive or compulsive behaviour, and convince them that what they are attempting to achieve has already been achieved. once the individual realises the situation is secure without further action, and this idea becomes ingrained within their cognition, the individual is likely to become more relaxed and be less inclined to undertake actions they are aware that serve no extra purpose.

hope this response has helped you!

AnswerOCD is an anxiety disorder that is in part biologically based and probably influenced by environment. Insecurity is a term that implies judgment where none is necessary. It is an illness, not a character weakness or flaw. There are excellent treatment options, including therapy, medication, and, most effective, a combination of both. AnswerStudies are showing that OCD maybe a secondary problem associated to streptococcus infections. OCD is not caused by insecurity, it is a brain disorder. If OCD was caused by insecurity, don't you think there would be greater prevalence among teenagers? Answerpersonally, i find that, whereas the actual disorder is not, some of my symptoms are related to insecurity. for example various rituals involving mirrors and eating. and some people find that their otherwise dormant or undisruptive disorders are alot more disruptive during adolescent years or other times of change or anxiety. plus ocd is an anxiety disorder and I'm sure that alot of people's anxiety is related to insecurity so...

in my case, yes it was related to living with abusive father who had bad rages and my parents were always arguing. i have been told that this was a main trigger in causing my illness which i was first aware of age 7.

Is facing your OCD thoughts head on acknowledging there OCD then tell your self there not you a good way of helping OCD?

There isn’t really a way to help yourself with ocd, and you have to face that you are going to have it no matter what. ocd is a mental health condition so nobody can really help you if you have it. Some things you can do to help is things like trying not to worry how things are organized and try to ignore out of place things if you can. It’s hard, but you’ll get the hang of it.
