People who are active in a religious community or are very spiritual as individuals tend to cope better with life's stressors. When you feel part of a greater whole, it is easy to understand that you aren't responsible for everything that happens in life. Religion also provides social support, reinforces a belief system, and attaches meaning to life. Most importantly it gives people hope. You don't have to be a doctor or a priest to know that hope has the potential to have the most profound affects on the body and mind.
