First of all, there are several different forms of Plague: Bubonic, Pneumonic, etc, that in many ways resemble one another. But the disease known as Typhus shares a lot of similarities with Plague.
While exact figures are difficult to come by, some 1,000 to 2,000 cases of bubonic plague are reported worldwide each year. Though treatment, following and early and accurate diagnosis, cuts the number of fatalities greately, we just can't get away from this bug.
