i think so, because the hormones are up and down which means so are emotions. Kids go through all manner of emotions during puberty and depression can be one of these. It is hard for them to understand what is happening to them during this period. They become moody and irritable at the least little thing and lazy and troublesome. The brain is changing along with the body and all the information is too much for some teenagers. If you think your son or daughter is depressed then take them along to see the doctor as there are drugs that can help. Sometimes there are serious issues involved that they think they cannot get through or find a way out off. It is known for some to take their own life because of this. It is essential that parents of depressed teenagers take it seriously and not overlook what is happening to their child.
Most children pass through Puberty without a hitch, but some find it traumatic because changes are not happening when they expect them to happen, or they are suffering symptoms they find hard to handle. This can lead to hiding oneself away or becomming depressed even. Because puberty takes a few years to complete the depression can last that long too if you do not seek help from your family Doctor. I would advise anyone to get help from their GP if they are having bouts of depression whether or not they are in puberty.
Puberty starts at 11 and ends at 15/16. So puberty lasts nearly 5 years.
If left untreated, depression can last your entire life. If you are treated properly, may just last a couple of years. Depression is not something that you can just get over quickly.
Puberty can leave you with feelings of depression due to development of new hormones.
Puberty usually continues till the age of 16-17 in boys. So it lasts for 5-6 years.
Girl's usually start puberty at ages 12-15 and it lasts until you are about 18yo.

Puberty itself does not cause depression, but from the point that a female hits puberty on, she is more likely to become depressed. Women are twice as likely as men to experience major depression. Depression mainly occurs during adulthood (20-40), but depression in children is becoming much more common and being seriously considered by specialists. Depression in young women and teens is unfortunately common. More than 10% of the population is dealing with depression. It is believed women are more prone to depression because of the unavoidable hormonal fluctuations that happen during puberty and womanhood. Women are most prone to depression after childbirth, which is known as postpartum syndrome. For more information and help with depression see the link below.
