Means your 4cm dilated and they can see your water through your cervix. So it can break any time. Just left labor and delivery tonight I'm also 4cm and bulging with baby number 3!!
It could be later today it could be 3 weeks from now. Just because you are dilated to something doen'nt mean labor is anytime soon...sorry. I have been dilated to a 3 for 2 weeks now :(
Especially if this is your first pregnancy, your body could take an unpredictable amount of time to get ready for labor. Generally, loss of the mucus plug means labor will start soon, but it could still be several days or more. It is not uncommon for a woman to be 2cm dilated for at least a few weeks at the end of pregnancy.
worse than normal but as you say mildly dilated. keep up with yearly or every 2 year echocardiograms (with the gel and wand on your chest) to keep up with it... to see if it turns into moderately dilated aorta... then if it gets to severely dilated your Dr. may recommend a surgical intervention
It's possible that the menstrual-like cramps you're feeling could be early signs of labor, especially if you are already 4cm dilated. Keep monitoring the intensity and frequency of the contractions and contact your healthcare provider for further guidance. It's always better to be cautious and seek medical advice in these situations.
You could be dilated more. A LOT can happen to a cervix in the last weeks of pregnancy. I was in early labor for 5 days, dilated at 3cm. They admitted me when I finally got to 4cm (5 days after my first real contractions started) and I had the urge to push by 6 or 7cm. It took me a long time to get to 7, but then I shot straight to 10 in a matter of an hour or so. Not every woman or pregnancy is the same though. You should tell your doctor this, he/she might want to do an exam to see if you are dilated any more. You could be closer to your baby's birthday than you think sister! Enjoy these last few days!
If your cervix is really 4cm dilated (not sure what the 80 is) at 34 weeks you should be at the hospital as your baby could be born anytime and at 34 weeks your baby will be pre-term and need extra support.
