I use this in the winter. Here in Northwest Indiana it gets sooo cold and a shot of Rock and Rye with hot tea is great. You really sleep good also.
No need to mix it with anything, drink it straight, you'll see how well that will work.
hot milk and haot chocolate can cure you from a cold . you might like to try some wisky of rum
Rock and rye is traditionally used as a home remedy for congestion due to its warming properties. The combination of whiskey, rock candy, and citrus in rock and rye can help soothe a sore throat, thin mucus, and provide relief from congestion. Consuming a warm toddy made with rock and rye may help to alleviate symptoms of congestion.
Rock and Rye is an infusion of citrus fruits and sweetened rye whiskey. Probably started out in saloons and taverns where some of the cut fruits at the end of the day were thrown into a jar of whiskey rather than discarded. Add a little lump sugar, rock candy, or rock candy syrup, and "Rock and Rye" was born. In the North East where American Rye whiskey has its deepest historical roots, it made a great hot drink during cold wet winters. It became popular enough that certain blends were bottled under proprietary names, two of which still exist: Jacquin's, and Mr' Boston's. Supposedly, Southern Comfort hails from the rock and rye tradition, though it is most likely bourbon based. At our bar "Rye" in San Francisco, we keep a decanter of our own Rock and Rye behind the bar. It is made with various Rye whiskeys, Horehound Rock Candy, Dried Lemon peel, Cassia bark, Clove, Dried Horehound, and a couple of other secret ingredients. We serve it as a Rock and Rye Toddy which is two oz. of rock and rye with 2 oz. boiling water, with a fresh lemon peel. The mixture is like a whiskey TheraFlu. Tastes great, and the horehound is an herbal remedy for whooping cough. we also serve it as a base for a Manhattan recipe which is quite good too.
the weather has to be cold or wet
Faygo officially changed the name of their Strawberry soda to "Redpop". Rock and Rye has a completely different taste.

There are many versions of this recipe as there are for a Hot Toddy, also suggested to help a cold. Drinking alcohol is a main active ingredient in most cough syrup medicines for colds. It helps you relax and rest better and can help clear secretions of a cold from your throat. The main ingredients in Rock and Rye preparations are rye whiskey, citrus (lemon slices, lemon peel, lemon juice, lime juice, etc.) and rock candy sugar. My favorite version is based on the following recipe, although I change the spices and flavors from time to time as well as the alcohol to bourbon, brandy, rum, etc. according to my whimsey. This makes 1 liter (you can also make it in one dose drinks, see other recipes below):1 liter rye whiskey 8 oz. rock candy4 oz cherry syrup (or the liquid from a jar of maraschino cherries)12 whole cloves3 whole star anise (available at Asian markets if not at the local groceries)3 sticks cinnamon1 orange, thinly sliced1 lemon, thinly slicedStir ingredients together in a 4-qt. glass jar with a lid. Let steep at room temperature for 2 days or up to a month. Here are some other recipes from contributors:Use Rock and Rye (available at many liquor stores pre-mixed), honey, and lemon juice. Mix together and take for a cold.Rock and Rye liqueur can be difficult to find. Essentially you want to build a nice rye whiskey toddy. Honey, rock candy, or simple syrup can all be substituted to sweeten the drink. To make a great batch of Rock and Rye that has a real kick in the head for a winter cold follow this recipe: Get a few wire mesh tea balls and a large glass jar or decanter. Fill one mesh ball with dried lemon peel. Fill another with equal parts dried horehound, clove, and cassia bark. Take any good Rye whiskey such as Old Overholt and pour into the jar with about 2 cups of rock candy, or rock candy syrup. Drop the tea balls in. Remove the horehound tea ball before 12 hours has elapsed. The lemon peel tea ball can remain in the mix longer. Mix equal parts Rock and Rye with hot water in a glass and add a fresh lemon peel.
Jeremiah Weed and Rock and Rye, although the latter uses Rye, not Bourbon. It is cheaper though.
No, this is very bad for dogs.
