You don't know it. Melanoma is on the skin ( until it gets too late and goes into the body) and it can look like a dark mole or spot or a light brown spot. It depends on your skin coloring how it looks. Unless you go to a doctor you don't know you have it. When it is found they remove it and that can hurt. They can "burn" it off with dry ice or cut it out. I have had both and it hurts. To avoid having to go through this wear sun screens, don't lay out in the sun, and take care of your skin. Doesn't matter how dark or fair you are melanoma now hits all because of the UV rays hitting the earth.
The signs and symptoms of melanoma
The first sign of melanoma is usually a change in the size, shape, color, or texture of an existing mole. usually they have a black or blue-black area. they also may appear as a new mole. It may be black, abnormal, or "ugly looking."
if you are unsure or concerned about something on your skin you shoul see your doctor.
Thinking of "ABCD" can help you remember what to watch for:
* Asymmetry-The shape of one half does not match the other.
* Border-The edges are often ragged, notched, blurred, or irregular in outline; the pigment may spread into the surrounding skin.
* Color-The color is uneven. Shades of black, brown, and tan may be present. Areas of white, grey, red, pink, or blue also may be seen.
* Diameter-There is a change in size, usually an increase. Melanomas are usually larger than the eraser of a pencil (1/4 inch or 5 millimeters).
If melanomas are left untreate it is possible for them to spread into your body and effect other part of the anatomy, leading to death.

Melanoma
Malignant (progressively worsening) Melanoma (tumor) is a type of skin cancer.
Melanoma is a malignant skin tumor. It produces melanin, a dark pigment, which colours the skin dark. Melanoma is not really used for anything, as it would be considered dangerous and unhealthy.
Melanoma is without a second thought, the most dangerious form of skin cancer. this can be a simple freckle or wart that may apear and itch for a bit but then after a few days of cream to help iritated skin this can go away, or the Melanoma can be be extreme... Melanoma can literally make you look like a roast pork and also rot away your skin right off till your fleshy inside.. alot of pain can be involved if badly infected.sorry about the wording, but yes, this is definatly the most dangerous form of skin cancer..
The two main types of skin cancer are melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and originates in the melanocytes, while non-melanoma skin cancer includes basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, which are more common but less likely to spread.
