  • First as food enters your mouth, physical breakdown happens. Your teeth increase the surface area of your food. Then food goes down the esophagus with the involuntary force of peristalsis. Then comes the Big 4! The stomach stores, mixes, digests, and controls the passage of food. After the Big 4 comes the (not really) small intestine!! The small intestine is the major site of digestion and absorption of food.

First, when food enters your mouth, your saliva softens it and you start chewing it so the pieces can be small enough for you to swallow them. Then through your throat, the food enters your stomach. There is an acid inside your stomach. That breaks the food pieces into even smaller pieces. There is a hole inside your stomach called the intestine entrance. It is a hole that leads the small food pieces to your intestines. The intestines is where your food digests. You have 2 different intestines. The first intestine where your food enters is called the small intestines. That is where your food softens up a little. If it is soft enough,it goes to your next intestines, the large intestines. The large intestines drys up all of the food, and when it is dry,it is called poop. Then the poop exits out of your bottom, called the butt. Then you digested the food!To remember some of these words, try doing the quick quiz below.

1)What is food after it drys up?

2)What intestine hardens food?

3)Read this sentence from the explanation.

"There is a hole inside your stomach called the intestine entrance."Is the intestine entrance a hole or your stomach?Explain how you know.
