Answer 1: No but cinnamon does

Answer 2: Somehow, I always get into trouble around here for such sarcasm as in the first answer, no matter how deserved, as it clearly is in this case. [sigh] Oh, well. [grin]

There have been no truly comprehensive and long-term studies of cinnamon's effect on Diabetes, but there have been at least a few informal ones. The results of those studies range from that cinnamon has no effect, all the way to that it can reduce blood sugar levels in some people by up to 60 percent. The study results, frankly, are kinda' all over the place! Someone needs to do a really comprehensive study of the kind that the FDA and AMA would bless. Maybe someone is, at this very moment... who knows.

The article about cinnamon and diabetes on the WebMD website is particularly good; and I've placed a link to it down in the "sources and related links" section of this web page, below.

The American Diabetes Association cites a study by W.L. Baker, et al, which found that cinnamon had no effect, whatsoever, on A1C results over time. I've placed a link to that web page down in the "sources and related links" section, too.

Cinnamon has been found to lower blood sugar levels, but it is by no means a cure. Insulin is not a cure either. Diet and exercise is often the best long term "cure" as many people who were insulin dependent can eliminate or lower their dose substantially after becoming healthier in weight and food consumption.

If you are speaking about blood sugar levels, or blood glucose levels, as in Diabetics, no. Studies show that ¼ teaspoon of sugar daily helps keep blood sugar levels under control for certain diabetics. It works for me.

Does cinnamon lower blood pressure?

To an extent, yes. Cinnamon was found to have a chemical that acts similar to insulin and causes the body to more efficiently store and use blood sugar which will lower blood pressure to a degree. 1-2 grams of cinnamon a day will provide this result, BUT this is not an excuse to skip on blood pressure medication. While cinnamon can help with high blood pressure it is no substitute for medication.

Is cinnamon healthier then honey?

Yes cinnamon is healthier than honey. Cinnamon is packed with antioxidants and vitamins that help us look younger and scavenge free radicals in the body. Honey is sugar, and should be used sparingly because although it may be considered more natural than sugar, any high sugar diet has negative risks on the body like causing inflammation. Cinnamon is a great natural and alternative sweetener that can be used in place of sugar. I enjoy putting it on my oatmeal instead of sugar. Unlike honey, many research studies suggest that cinnamon may help lower blood sugar levels naturally and may help with blood pressure levels. Finally, cinnamon is very low in calories, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon has only 11 calories; it's much lower than honey!

How can people with high blood sugar treat themselves?

The best way to treat high blood sugar is to take doctor prescribed doses of insulin and/or medication daily. Diet and exercise should also be incorporated to help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Does cinnamon in ice cream reduce it's fat?

Short answer? No. Long answer? No.While cinnamon has been shown to help curb appetite, this is only in relatively large doses. This amount of cinnamon is difficult, if not impossible, to ingest simply through food, but must be taken in supplement form. Cinnamon in large doses can help to regulate blood sugar levels. When blood sugar drops too low too quickly (usually the result of rising too high too quickly) it can result in food cravings, especially for things high in sugar or other simple carbohydrates. But adding cinnamon to ice cream does not "cut" the fat content of the original product. Not even if it's cinnamon flavored ice cream.

What are antidiabetic drugs?
