some people have used a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the ear for ten seconds then cleaned with a cotton swab.
Caution:Hydrogen Peroxide works well with a healthy ear, but may be a bit rough on an infected one. Ideally, a doctor would see this and prescribe meds targeted at the exact problem. If you wish to attempt to treat at home, a very light combination of muriatic acid and sterile water works well against swimmer's ear. This is often the formula used in commercially available OTC ear drops.Don't put Q-Tips, cotton swabs, or anything the least bit rigid and of small diameter into any ear canal, especially an infected one. Instead, blot the outside of the ear, or wrap the tip of your little finger with absorbent materials, and use that to swab the ear out. You want to avoid going deep into the ear.
It usually takes a doctor to prescribe antibiotics.
You want the ear canal to be dry, the bacteria and fungi like a warm moist place, so pull back hair to uncover the ear, keep water from going in your ears in the shower or tub, don't swim, etc. You can use a hand held hair dryer on low and allow it to blow past your ears to dry them (don't hold it too close, start at 10 to 12 inches away and don't hold in one spot too long), test very often on your hand to be sure it is not getting too hot. Do this for only a couple of minutes at the most. Keep liquids out of your ears until a physician can examine them so you can avoid making things worse. When you see the doctor ask about a vinegar solution for home use to help prevent frequent ear infections.
An ear infection is when you get an infection in your ear.
If your ear is pierced, the piercing may be infected. You also may have an inner ear infection or you may have slept on your ear when it was folder over and that takes a while to stop hurting.
Some ear inffections cannot be helped and listening to music doesn't make a difference. You think little bacteria dudes float in the sound waves into your ear? No. Ear infections are picked up from the head phones, if they are dirty. However loud music can affect your hearing, as it can burst your eardrums.
