The brain insists on maintaining the status quo. If a person is obese, for whatever reason that may be, and he tries to diet, as all obese people do and many manage to lose some weight , maybe even a lot of weight, and keep it off for varying periods of time. All those who are overweight or obese are experts on what we should eat, so, why do we eventually put the weight back on, and always a bit more? Any loss of weight is seen by the body as starvation and starts to do many things to get the weight back to the status quo, and the brain works harder and harder to achieve this balance. Not only does it want the balance to be returned, it insists on a bit more weight be added in case of future starvation. Our brain is trying to protect us, and when we lived in caves, it did just that. I am not a medical person, but I am a strong willed person who has become obese and I am unable to maintain weight loss for long. I welcome all replies to my opinion
