Its very hard depending on how much and the length of time you've been taking them. slowly reduce your dosage weekly until your down to maybe 10 mg a day then go to 10 every other day until you can stop. Or you can go on suboxone to quit, its a miracle drug!! only approved Dr.'s can give it to you or maybe you can find it on the street. Im currentl taking 8mg of suboxone a day and i feel like a new man. I've been abusing oxy for 5 years and this is the only way i could go without.

It depends on how long you have been taking the meds.You will need the help of professionals. A good Rehab facility. Trying to "get off" of oxycodone by yourself is dangerous and very, very uncomfortable. I have been taking it every day for the last 16 years.

It depends on how long you've been taking it, and what dose you're taking. And of course, it depends on you.

Since withdrawals are always going to happen and you want to avoid the worst of it, there's a couple of ways you can go:

1. If you're taking it under a doctor's care, your MD can give you a drug that will ease withdrawal symptoms as you lower your dosage.

2. If not, then you need to start lowering the dose incrementally. Start by cutting a pill in half, then see how long you can go and how bad the withdrawal is. If you can deal with it, go with half for a week or two, then cut the pill again so you're dealing with quarters of a pill. Do the same thing as far as withdrawal goes.

If cutting in half is too much, then just lower the dose by a quarter, and work your way down. Eventually you'll get to the point where you won't need it anymore. If you want to ease withdrawal pain, you can try using Bayer Back and Body aspirin - I use it when I don't feel like taking a Percocet.

So you know - I've been using the highest dose of Percocet for almost 9 years now (Percocet is Oxcodone and Tyelenol combined) and I go through 120 - 150 per month. That's just for breakthrough pain - I use Duragesic patches for regular pain, plus I have 100mg Demerol tabs in case I need them as well. I've been able to lower my dosages considerably when I've needed to. You just need the will to do it, and you need to do it incrementally over time as I've listed above. But you can do it. 2 years ago after my L3 disk literally collapsed (leaving bone-bone between the vertabrae) the pain was so bad I had doubled the dosages of everything I normally use. I was able to reduce that past my original dose prior to having to ramp up by doing what I've listed above within 6 weeks. It wasn't easy, and I do have access to withdrawal meds if I need them.

Just trust yourself to get through it and you'll be okay.

This can depend on which opiates you have been taking, how long you have been taking them, and how many you take in a day. If you have been on narcotic pain meds or sedatives in high doses, and for longer than a few weeks, then you need to taper off of them. There have been instances where those who have been on fairly high doses of opiates went cold turkey, and had complications which led to their death. This is something you really need to discuss with your doctor first. But if you do decide to go cold turkey on your own, be prepared for a few rough days, with the third day usually being the worse. You will have some, or all, of the following: * chills * shaking * body aches, much like the flu * nausea * diarrhea * a general feeling of ill health * headache Have someone there with you, and let them know to call 911 if you develop convulsions or seizures, which is possible. Also, have them keep a check on your blood pressure and your pulse rate. This can be done with a digital BP monitor (they are quite inexpensive), and if your vitals get too high or low, they need to call 911 for that, too. After the third day, you will begin to feel better, but will still be weak. Drink lots of fluids to help flush the drugs from your system, and eat light meals (soup, crackers, etc.). Bathe with a super fatted soap, such as Dove soap, because these types of soaps will help rid the skin of drug residue that has seeped through your pores with your sweat. Once you do get the drugs out of your system, the rest of the battle will be psychological. This part of the battle will take the longest to win, but once you do, you will grateful beyond belief that you did it! It will make changes in your life that will make all the difference, and will very possibly save your life. As you are going through withdrawal (if you go cold turkey), you will be so tempted to give up. Do NOT give up, you know this is something you have to do, and you CAN do it once you set your mind to it.
