Uric acid is a material that is made in the system as a result of the body's digestion of the nucleus of what were living cells. Some uric acid is important to the body's health as it is an important antioxidant that helps fight disease. However if the concentration of uric acid in the blood becomes too high (the reasons for this are not always understood) it turns into a solid in the shape of fine sharp uric acid crystals. These can then find their way into the joints of the body via the sinovial fluid ( especially the joints of the extremity's such as the toes and hands, these crystals can also lead to kidney's damage and damage in other parts of the body, leading to excruciating pain and serious illness.
