There are many possible causes, as each case of anorexia is different. Often, anorexia results from a mix of a few causes combined into one effect that ends up as an eating disorder. Some common causes are bullying / teasing, OCD, BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder), depression, extreme dieting, dieting gone wrong, low self-esteem, low body image, and some studies suggest there may be a genetic linked potentially involved, too, but that is not yet determined.

There are many different causes of anorexia, and no individual may have just a single cause. Often, anorexia is something that builds up or involves many pushing factors. Anorexia can be referred to often as a "diet gone too far", or something that maybe started out not so serious and developed into something much worse. Common causes and trigger include....

* Bullying/teasing (especially about weight and appearacnes)

* Obsessive dieting

* Yo-yo dieting

* Low self-esteem

* Low sense of self-worth

* OCD or "Perfectionism"

* BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder)

* Family/friends influences

* Genetics (this is only a theory, more research is pending to support or deny this possibility)

* Social/media influences and pressures

* Depression

One of the main causes of anorexia are social and peer pressure. The standards of beauty nowadays are totally fantasized. When you see a model on TV or on a billboard, chances are they have a ton of make up on, applied by professional stylists. After that, computer engineers use special effects and photoshop to make them look even more appealing. Point is, regular people can't match that. Some people would give anything in the world to though, and so they starve themselves.
