My father has had blood clots and is still high-risk to getting more. He has had no issues with flying while he has had blood clots. His has been in his legs, and all he said to do was wiggle your toes. If it is a longer flight, be sure to get up and move around when you can. The longer you sit, the worse it is.

Blood clots canoccur in any situation where immobility is an issue, and is not just limited to airline flight. There are several things you can do to prevent these from occurring in the future:

If you have a history of blood clots, you may currently be under treatment with medications like coumadin (warfarin) to prevent other clots from forming. If you are not on those medications, you may consider taking Aspirin before the flight (providing you have no other reasons you could not take this med).

Finally, seeing as the venous stasis (blood not moving in your legs) is the cause of the blood forming clots; Move your legs. Flexing, extending, stretching, moving... your feet forces the blood back out of the lower legs back into circulation.
