Pregnancy lowers the mother's immune system, making her more suceptible to colds and other illnesses, but having a cold during your pregnancy will not effect the baby. A mother can't pass the cold to her baby.

It's best to contact your doctor before you take any medications. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids (water is best) and get extra rest while you have the cold.

No, minor illnesses don't affect the baby. If you have the flu though make sure you keep your temeperature down (acetaminophen - paracetamol - is best) and if you are worried talk to your health-care provider.

No unless you are so sick it causes you to be hospitalized there is no effect on the baby. It would be a go idea to get a book that helps discuss these things. There is a fun one written by two married OB-GYN doctors and it discusses all kinds of pregnancy myths. Check it out on Amamzon, it has good reviews http://www.amazon.com/Hands-Off-My-Belly-Pregnant/dp/1591027535/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262637160&sr=8-1

Do cold sores have anything to do with being pregnant?

No cold sores shouldn't affect your pregnancy or the birth of the baby. Just be care full and don't kiss your baby if or while you have a cold sore. It's safer to kiss them when you don't have any signs of a cold sore.

What are the risks involved if you are taking cold and flu tablets but you think you might be pregnant and it's too early to tell if you are?

There is a slight risk of affecting the baby. If you suspect your pregnant and you shouldn't take this medication, then stop taking it straight away. I agree. Just take lots of fluids. If it is later on (after 16 weeks) and you truly have the flu (with a high temperature) it is probably safer to take acetominophen (paracetamol) to bring the temperature down than to run a fever which can affect the baby.
