This practically never happens in clinical practice. You get blood clots from deep veins of the legs. Usually the patient is bed ridden and blood get clotted there. when the clot get dislodged from there, it reaches the lungs to give you pulmonary embolism. That may be a very serious life threatening condition.

What is the relationship between venous thrombosis and pulmonary emboli?

'venous thrombosis' is a blood clot in a vein. Sometimes these blood clots can break off from where there are and travel 'embolize' to the lung 'pulmonary'. When the blood clot travels to the lung, it will get stuck in an vessel in the lung and block flow in that branch of the blood vessel. In some medical studies, as many as 40% of people with blood clots in their legs or pelvis will have a PE, or pulmonary embolis. These are often small and go un-noticed. Unfortunately they can also be very serious and even lead to death.

What are the mechanisms by which strokes occur?

The blockage of an artery in the brain by a clot (thrombosis) is the most common cause of a stroke. The part of the brain that is supplied by the clotted blood vessel is then deprived of blood and oxygen. As a result of the deprived blood and oxygen, the cells of that part of the brain die. Typically, a clot forms in a small blood vessel within the brain that has been previously narrowed due to a variety of risk factors including:high blood pressure (hypertension),high cholesterol, diabetes, andsmoking.ashna and sienna roxIt could also be caused by a hole in the heart which is called a PFO. Then a blood clot can go through the hole and up to the brain. I would know. It happened to me.

Can you die from a blood clot in your leg?

a blood clot is caused by eating junk food or not exercising enough because the fat builds up and causes plaque to built up slowly on your cell wall you cant tell if you have a blood clot unless you go to the doctor and they can make the area of your cell larger but they have not figured out how to just remove the plaque without damaging the cell. so once you get plaque built up in your blood cells then it cant go away

Menstrual blood doesn't clot like normal blood, if ti did then it'd be detrimental to the whole process of menstruation. What people normally think are clots are actually larger pieces of the uterus lining that is shed, or blood mixing with cervical mucus.
