Some people have heart flutters/palpitations that is Mitro-Valve Prolapse. They must be pre-medicated prior to the dental care/treatments.
Infections in the gums can get into the blood stream and go to the heart and cause an infection. This is very serious and could lead to hospitalization and more.
July 2010 I was given an update to this issue by my Dental Staff. The Heart Association has determined that this is no longer necessary.
However, If it were me, I would rather fault on the side of Caution than risk my heart and health.
