Mr Woolworth in 1924. AKA Frank Winfield Woolworth.

"...Woolworths, as a business, pre-dates both Wal-Mart and Tesco. Back in 1924, the Australian company's founders registered the name Woolworths as a bit of a lark after noticing that the famous US-based F W Woolworth Company had not registered that name in Australia.

The chain opened its first store in Liverpool in 1909 as FW Woolworths, a subsidiary of its US parent. And closed in 2009, 100 years after first opening it's first store.

Frank Woolworth opened his first store in New York in 1878, but it soon failed. A later store in Lancaster, Penn. became a success June 1879
