Both ZIP Codes and PIN Codes are postal codes. ZIP (Zone Improvement Plan) Codes are used in the United States and in the Philippines (two completely separate systems of postal codes); PIN (Postal Index Number) codes are used in India.

ZIP stands for Zone Improvement Plan, and is a number given to US areas. PIN stands for Personal Identification Number, and is a number associated with a particular bank or credit card account.

The first identifies an area for mail delivery purposes, the second is a security measure to prevent just anybody using the card.
