Additionally, the 36°30' parallel was established as a boundary for slavery in new territories by the Missouri Compromise of 1820.
Pangaea was centered around the equator during the Triassic period, spanning from about 90°N to 60°S latitude.
The equator is the line of latitude that receives the sun's direct rays during the equinoxes. This is because the Earth's axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun during the equinoxes, causing the sun's rays to strike the equator perpendicularly.
Kansas was located south of the 36°30´ parallel, so it allowed for the possibility of slavery in the area under the Missouri Compromise. This advantage attracted pro-slavery settlers who sought to expand slavery into the territory, influencing the political landscape and tipping the balance in favor of pro-slavery forces during the settlement.
At the Spring and Autumn Equinox, the sun is directly over the equator which is at 0 degrees latitude.
The Border Ruffians were pro-slavery activists who primarily came from the slave state of Missouri. They crossed the border into Kansas during the Bleeding Kansas period to influence the outcome of elections and support the expansion of slavery into the territory.
The mean temperature depends on altitude, latitude and longitude, bodies of water, etc.
This is Baffin Bay, which separates Greenland from the Canadian arctic islands (notably Baffin Island) to the west. Almost all of Baffin Bay is north of the Arctic Circle, and contains pack ice and icebergs except during August and early September. The islands at the northwest end are Ellesmere Island and Devon Island.
The latitude and longitude of Portugal is 39º 30' N and 8º 00' W respectively. It is located in southwestern Europe and lies on the western part of Spain. The aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, can be seen in the high-latitude regions around the Arctic Circle. This natural light display is best viewed in locations such as Norway, Iceland, Canada, and Alaska, where the latitude ranges from approximately 60 to 70 degrees north and the longitude varies.
Summer is a season, not a specific location, thus it does not have a fixed latitude and longitude. The position of the sun during summer varies based on the Earth's tilt, resulting in different latitudes and longitudes experiencing summer at different times.
Navigation is based on mathematics. Calculating your position is just calculating angular distances north-south (latitude) and east-west (longitude).
Brasilia's latitude and longitude are 15 degrees 48 minutes South and 47 degrees 54 minutes West. It's located in the Central West Region of Brazil. It's the capital city of Brazil.
Because during the course of the day, the sun's apparent longitude changes steadily, but its apparent latitude doesn't change.
Purnie Bore, in the southern Simpson Desert of Australia, was sunk by teams during the oil exploration years in that area. As the years went by, leaks in the bore caused a substantial amount of hot water to surface and develop into a sizeable lake. The bore is located just inside the South Australia boundary, at 26.2850° south latitude 136.0982° east longitude.
The Tropic of Cancer is a line of latitude located approximately 23.5 degrees north of the equator. It marks the northernmost point where the sun appears directly overhead at noon during the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
During his first expedition in 1513, Juan Ponce de León reached the latitude of around 30 degrees North, which is believed to correspond to present-day northeastern Florida. While the precise longitude is not known, it is assumed that he explored the coast between the modern-day St. Augustine area and the Cape Canaveral region.
The artificial boundary of Alabama is defined by lines of latitude and longitude that were established during the state's original surveying and mapping. These boundaries are man-made and do not correspond to any natural geographical features.
