The Dominican Republic is the second largest island in the Caribbean, after Cuba. It has an extension of 42,000 kilometers, endless miles of beautiful beaches ( white and golden sand ) and a one of the most varied ecosystems. Its capital is Santo Domingo, located in the South Coast. Its currency is the Dominican Peso, valued at $44.50 x dollar at the time of this writing. Religion is mostly Catholic, with many protestants too.

The DR as is commonly known, became a major tourist destination since the early 1980`s when the Northern city of Puerto Plata started all-inclusive resorts, and since then it grew to other areas such as Bavaro, Punta Cana, Macao, Samana, and Cabrera. Today the major tourist areas are Punta Cana to the East and Puerto Plata to the North. Smaller towns like Boca Chica, Sosua, Cabarete, Cofresi and Costambar are also areas of heavy tourism influence.

The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Another Country, Haiti. The natural border between the two allows many Haitians to settle in border cities, which has recently created issues with the Dominican government. The Dominican economy does a lot of exports, including agricultural, textile, call centers, and alcohol drinks. The government is stable, having gone through periods of civil war, dictatorships and corrupt governments through decades. Today, the island is a more modern country with breath taking locations and many, many resorts.
