Evidentally the original Steel-belted radials- the Goodyear Naval rigid airships, such as the Akron and Macon , both lost in accidents. the Navy had plans for a trainer full-rigid dirigible - with steel internal framework, around about l939. Costs were appropriated, I do not know how far along this was in the design stages but it is estimated the craft would have had an envelope capacity of 3,000,000 cubic feet of Helium. As far as is known the craft was never built. There is a model of a belted blimp, with the internal framework showing, at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in the aircraft section, I have no idea if the model is still hung up.
