We can easily define these by trying to speculate each word. "Skills" as defined by some dictionaries, is an ability that has been acquired by training which is our subjects' commonality.

Fundamental skills pertain to what we know the basic skills. The very foundation that involves basic principles and facts from which other skills and abilities can be derived. This skill is important in understanding a certain subject. This is the primary root or the primary skill that we learn from a profound aspect.

On the other hand is the Specialized skills, compared to fundamental skills, it involves more of purposive principles and techniques. This is much deeper and more focused on a specific area or subject matter acquired through further training and understanding. Speculating with detailed principle derived from what is fundamental/basic.

A good example to better understand the difference of fundamental and specialized skill is by taking a glimpse on the process undergone by some profession, Say for example, a nurse. FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS in nursing are taught and acquired all through out a nursing student's stay at the nursing school such as first aid and other nursing procedures and all the basic skills they should learn before anything deeper. When this nursing student graduate and become a registered nurse this is the time wherein SPECIALIZED SKILL will come through. It is up to the RN on what department or branch of nursing he/she would like to focus or specialized in like ER nurse, ICU nurse, OR nurse, Pediatric nurse, Oncology nurse and more.

To briefly put it altogether, Fundamental skills are the General aspects while Specialized skill is the specific facet than that of the latter.
