The two are sometimes used together as an aerovane.

Another common device is the "wind sock," an orange cloth cone used to indicate

crosswinds at airports and heliports. Within a range of speeds, the cone indicates

wind direction, and it gives a general idea of the wind speed from the inflation of

the cone by the wind.
