MiraLax is polyethylene glycol 3350. Typical use is to dissolve about 17 grams of the PEG in a beverage and swallow it. The long-chain plastic provides lubricity similar to mucus, and penetrates the waste in the large colon, softening it and loosening it. An incredibly large number of heart attacks used to occur on Monday morning - stress of the work week coming - as men were straining to take their morning dump.
Previously, stimulants like phenolphthalein forced out the fecal matter, often with great pain and strain. The first product ever manufactured by Bristol-Myers was Sal Hepatica, a liver-salts laxative that was nasty but effective. You can get 18-ounces of Magnesium Citrate at the drug store, which is less nasty to consume - it's citrus-flavored and carbonated, so it's sorta like drinking off-brand soda pop, but you still have the salt causing problems with blood pressure. Products like Citrusel and Metamucil are supposed to ease constipation problems, but if you look at the droppings of rabbits, sheep, and other animals that eat grass, they are generally rock-hard. The idea of swallowing plastic (PEG 3350) isn't altogether appealing - are we sure it won't hurt us? - but it seems to be the best solution to constipation we have at present. Well, either that, or get a different boss/mother-in-law/neighbor or whatever else is stressing you out and tying your colon in a knot.
The 17 grams of a dose is about 1 heaping tablespoon. It takes 16 actual tablespoons to make a cup, so it probably takes 12 or so heaping tablespoons. That means one cup would be about 200 grams of PEG3350. One gram of the dry powder would be 1/200 cup. Since there's no specification as to how much fluid the dose should be dissolved in, there's no satisfying answer for the cups per gram of MiraLax in use. However, I usually dissolve the PEG3350 in a 20-ounce glass of unsweet iced tea. Figuring 3 ounces of ice, that would be one gram of PEG3350 per ounce of tea - which is 1/8 of a standard cup.
That is about 1/3 cup .
There is about 0.6 cups for every 120 grams of granulated sugar. This means that there is approximately 0.005 cups in every one gram.
How many cups are in 70 grams depends upon what ingredient you are measuring. As a general rule of thumb however, there are 5/8 cup in 70 grams.
