The average respiration rate for a person at rest is about 16 breaths per minute.

This means on average, we breathe about 960 breaths an hour

23040 breaths a day

8409600 a year

If a person lives to 80, then that means on average they will take 672,768,000 breaths in a lifetime!

Please note this is based on a persons average respiration rate at rest. It does not take into account the increase in respiratory rate during exercise.

Also our respiratory rates are significantly faster as children, therefore the actual figure is probably a lot higher than this!
you take 10,541,200 breaths a year so lets say the average person is 80

This would equil to 843296000

Far more heartbeats than breaths. The average resting heartbeat is between 60 and 90. Most perople take about 20 breaths a mintue at the most. Simply put, I don't know anyone who takes a breath everytime their heart beats. Coriously enough most animals have a life expectancy that just about equals one billion beats of their heart. Man is different however and lives long enough on average to hear his heart beat 3 billion times. Your heart beats about 70 times a minute so you have far more beats of your heart than breaths.

Well lets try and work it out.....

I have just counted how many breaths I take a minute - I counted 20.

Lets also say that most people live to about 75 years old.

Well 75 years * 365 (number of days in a year) = 27,375 number of days you live for.

27,375 * 24 (number of hours in a day) = 657,000 number of hours you live for.

657,000 * 60 (number of minutes in an hour) = 39,420,000 number of minutes you live for

39,420,000 * 20 (number of breaths you take in a minute) = 788,400,000 is the number of breaths you take in your life.
