Four thousandths. A tenth of a millimeter equals 4 thousandths (.004"). It's not useful to those of us working with American Standard units. Four thousandths, or .004" is an odd way to reference anything in the us tooling industry. We refer to measurements as thousandths, or tenths. If we say we need to grind another 4 tenths off of somethin, we mean that .0004" needs to come off of it, which equals .01mm, roughly. If you pull out a hair from your head, slice it long ways into 3 equal slices, and measure one of those slices... It will be roughly one thousandth of an inch, or .001" numerically.
