How to Clean Rubber Golf Mats?
Placing a rubber mat in your golf cart will keep the vehicle’s
floor clean of grass and mud. Finding golf cart mats isn’t
difficult; a mat may have even been included with the purchase of
the golf cart. But when the rubber mat becomes dirty, it needs to
be removed and cleaned properly. This article outlines how to do
just that.
Step 1. The first step is to remove the rubber mat by pulling it
up and out. After that, place the mat on stable and clean surface
such as your front porch or driveway. If the mat is incredibly
dirty, take care to place it on a surface that you won’t mind
hosing down later. Don’t try to clean a rubber mat on the bare
ground; the pressure of the water hose will beat the ground into
mud.
Step 2. Using a broom, sweep any loose debris off and away from
the rubber mat. You can use a regular kitchen broom or small
hand-broom for this job. Skip this step if the mat is still wet
with water or mud. Sweeping the mat in this state will simply
damage your broom and spread the mess around.
Step 3. Using a water hose, spray the mat down using a strong,
steady stream. If you don’t have a nozzle for the water hose, place
one or two fingers over the spout to create a forceful stream of
water that will easily clean the rubber mat.
Step 4. Using mild kitchen soap, scrub the mat with a sponge or
cloth. You can also use a scrubbing brush, but be careful not to
damage the rubber mat. Continue scrubbing until you’ve loosened all
debris.
Step 5. Spray the mat using the water hose again. If there is
still debris stuck to the rubber mat, repeat the last step. Once it
is sufficiently clean, hang it up to dry away from direct sunlight.
Sunlight can severely damage rubber, causing it to warp into an
unusable shape.
