Many people also liked its generally optimistic take on the future. The character of Spock attracted many because of his "cool." Pretty girls showing lots of leg (for the time) didn't hurt either. The show, actually, wasn't tremendously popular with the general public. Its low Nielsen ratings led to its cancellation after three seasons.

Star Trek spawned a generation of keen scientific minds to take some of the fictional inventions of Star Trek for example the Automatic Door and make it reality.
