Frankenstein did not think of himself as a monster. He was like a child newly born through the Doctor's efforts of making him live again. His brain was wiped clean and he had to start all over to learn everything around him. He began to explore his world and saw the wonders of it from a child's perspective. It was only after the people of the village began to chase him and try to kill him that he became sad and embittered against the world. They tried to kill him because he was different. His child like mind and his monster like strength made for a dangerous combination. The lesson is that we should treat all people with kindness and accept them for who they are no matter how different they may look.
The monster was created by Dr Frankenstein. In the original story the monster once created acted like a child the Dr treated his creation as a new born and in essence brought him up. Following the Dr's death the monster grieved for the loss of "his father".
