Perhaps Elizabeth I thought that England needed a powerful female monarch. Perhaps she did not want to lose power to a man, which she would have done (in that era) had she married.
For more in-depth information about the possible reasons Elizabeth remained unmarried, see the related question further down this page.
Remember females did not have any authority during that era, if Queen Elizabeth I married during her reign, she would of not have any authority, but rather the King would be the one making the calls.
Queen Elizabeth I held on to the throne for a long time in part because of her Political Savvy.
Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms on February 6, 1952 upon the death of her father King George VI. She was heir to the throne, and also a Catholic so many people who were Catholics in England supported her. The problem was Elizabeth was afraid that she might try to overthrow her so she sent spies in to where Mary was being held prisoner and they discovered a plot to overthrow Elizabeth. Mary and a man called Anthony Babington were executed for treason.
The biggest problem for Elizabeth was religion because Elizabeth did not like Catholics so she killed most of them. The ones that survived went to church privately. the protestants that had Catholics in there family's were sad.

She just fell in love.
The pope, who was an uncle to his wife Catherine , refused to grant him a divorce so he could marry Boleyn. So, Ann convinced him that leaving the church would not only allow them to marry, but he could take the holdings of the church and to claim money/treasures held by it. Henry was excommunicated by the pope so that made it easy for him to create the Anglicized version of the Catholic Church and Ann was also pregnant with a child that Henry hoped would be a boy to inherit the throne. Instead she had Elizabeth who will serve as Queen for 63 years.
