Why couldn't Percy Jackson fly in an airplane to los angles?

percy cant use air travel as his father and zeus are rivals so neither strays into the others territories however, since percy's father created horses, he can fly on pegasi like in the 3rd book onwards. Land travel and sea travel is the safest way for Percy to travel.
