Hagrid was forced to go into hiding with his half brother for a while, because he had started a Harry Potter fan club and the Death Eaters were after him. He came out for the battle at Hogwarts, however, and I assume that afterwards he stayed at Hogwarts as Game Keeper for quite a while.
