As of May 01st 2018, The Avengers is currently the fifth highest grossing film worldwide & the sixth domestically. Given the huge opening weekend success of Avengers Infinity War, The Avengers will most likely move down a notch in both lists. Time will tell.
I don't know about the comics but they certainly don't fare well at the end of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. They certainly are on the losing end in the battle with Thanos, but I'm sure though, they'll prevail in the next film in 2019.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man joins The Avengers in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016) and later becomes a more permanent member in "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) and "Avengers: Endgame" (2019).
