The vampire Lestat. Anne Rice who is the author of "interview with the Vampire" as part of a twelve chronicle series said she based his character on her husband. However she was very upset when they cast Tom Cruise as Lestat and actually voiced her concerns as she feared he would not deliver justice to the role of her beloved character. On seeing the film she retracted her previous comments and could sing only the highest praises for Cruises performance. I have read all twelve chronicles and am an avid reader. Tom Cruise's portrayal of Lestat was incredible to watch and I never normally say this but sometimes I think TC gave an even better representation and a larger than life feel of Lestat than Lestats character in the book (the Lestat of this book is much younger but he matures through her books) for example as much as I love Al Pacino (incredible actor) in Mario Puzo's The Godfather. I still find Al Pacinos performance (whilst not bad) was too green & subsequently he couldn't quite fill the HUGE shoes of Michael Corleone's character in the book. When I read the book I was enthralled and mesmerised by his character but found myself underwhelmed when watching Al Pacino play him in real life. Don't get me wrong the 2nd & 3rd Godfather AP played Michael perfectly but just not well enough in the first (Maybe he was too young) Anyway I'd take Ann Rice's vampire chronicles any day over Twilight ....don't look at me I'm a beautiful vampire who glitters in the sun -as an overgrown diamond I fall in love with someone who is both mentally & emotionally engaging enough for a 200 yr old vampire....a teenager....LOL puhlease somebody shoot me first.
