As with any fine gemstone the quality of the stone is what goes in to play when determining the value of a stone. What also has to be determined is if the stone is natural or lab created and if the stone has been heat treated to enrish the color. Ruby, by far, has more value than that of a sapphire. The stone in its' natural state is more rare than sapphire. A true red, that is a blood red ruby with out flaws is rare and very valuable once it has been determined that the stone has not been heat treated. Sapphires are available in many colors and some of the more rare colors can have more value than the blue. Green, yellow, pink, white. Medium rich to light blue sapphires have more value than the darker more common sapphires.
