Percy made a bus explode with a Revolutionary War cannon and there was the whole "math teacher from Hades" thing.
Percy did not yet know about his roots in Greek mythology or that he was a demi-god. When he destroyed his teacher (who was a monster) with a celestial sword, an illusion known as mist was put over the students. The mist altered their memories and they all were under the belief that they had a different teacher the entire year. The mist did not work on Percy and he remembered the entire thing clearly. He could not understand why the other students would fake not remembering the first teacher.
He knew math and had a phD Hi elysa
Mrs. Dodds.
Well in the first off in the first book he discovers that he is the son of Poseidon. He also finds out the Zeus's lightning bolt was stolen. So Percy, Annabeth and his best friend Grover have to retrieve it before the winter solstice. BY THE BIGGEST LIGHTNING THIEF FAN IN THE UNIVERSE!!!
There are so many great math teachers it would be difficult to choose the best math teacher in the world. One of my personal favorites, however, is a math teacher in Toledo Ohio, named Mrs. Hillis.

At the beginning of the first book Percy gets attacked by his math teacher, Mrs. Dodds. She gets him into an empty room and turns into a Fury (a kindly one).
