I had this in a crossword puzzle. The clue was "Apple, as in Arles". Not knowing what Arles was, I went to googling. Arles is a city in SE France. In no way did I find any type of 'Arles Apple' anywhere on the all-knowing internet. So the only answer to your question would be a "french apple" or "pomme", the french translation for apple, which consequently was the answer to my crossword. Hope it helped.
