Of course Queen Elizabeth I sat on the throne, as shown in many portraits. Elizabeth took the throne - literally - during her coronation process. She also sat on the throne during ceremonial occasions and when special visitors called upon her. The throne was lavishly decorated and a symbol of her status and power.

Conventional thought seems to be that while she did not care for the way England was being governed, she would be a reluctant ruler. As the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, she was declared by the Pope as illegitimate and therefore not fit to rule.Upon the death of her sister Mary I,Elizabeth inherited a country that was in the middle of a religious war,its people were divided, and its treasury virtually bankrupt.Conspiracies against her were abundant,as were attempts on her life. Hardly conditions to make anyone want to take over as ruler.Elizabeth was able to overcome these impediments and rule for fourty-four years, which was called the "golden age of England."

Upon hearing that she was Queen, legend has it that Elizabeth quoted the 118th Psalm's twenty-third line, in Latin: "A Dominum factum est illud, et est mirabile in oculis notris" -- "It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes."

Yes Queen Elizabeth I mother Anne Boleyn was Queen as she ruled with King Henry VIII but her term was short lived because she was unable to produce a male heir but she only produced the wise and noble Queen Elizabeth I so King Henry VIII had Queen Ann Boleyn beheaded as she was tried for treason, adultery, incest, and witchcraft she was beheaded at the tower of London when Elizabeth was 2 and 1/2 years old!

She was not the first queen

Queen Matilda reigned in the 1100s, around 400-500 years before Elizabeth I did.

No. Queen Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603) did not marry, or have children, reigned alone, and was known as The Virgin Queen.

No. There is no such thing thing as the Queen of England now. Queen Elizabeth the 1st was Queen of England and Mary was Queen of Scotland until Elizabeth had her (Mary, her cousin) beheaded.
