Depends what you mean by real historian. He gets kids learning history and uses historical facts to justify a historical perspective, so in that sense he's a historian. In another sense, he is not an accredited Oxford History Professor. I don't think it matters, Horrible Histories has taught a generation of schoolkids to love the past.
