Sam witwicky resurects Optimus Prime by giving him the matrix of leadership. Jetfire sacrifices himself by giving his parts to Prime. Prime kills the Fallen and maimes Megatron. Starscream and Megatron escape and there is only few decepticons left in the world.

No, he did not die. However, after the death Megatronous Prime aka THE FALLEN, and half of Megatron's face was blown apart by his own cannon in Revenge of the fallen. Dejected and insulted Megatron fled to the Kalahari desert.

In the African desert, he saw a human fuel plant nearby and choose to Scan and transform into a Fuel Truck instead and live deep in the desert incognito until a right time to plan an attack on the humans and Autobots again.

Severly insulted, he hid his face from the disfigurement on a cowl and became a bit paranoid. Starscream came to him on a time when Shockwave and Soundwave has a plan on resurecting an Autobot leader from thier crashed ship on the moon. This is where the DARK OF THE MOON story kicks in.

The autobots revive their leader Sentinel Prime on thier ship on the moon and brings him back to earth. But the Autobots were betrayed, Sentinel had made a pact with Megatron. Megatron then leaves Africa and comes back to the city with the entire Decepticon army invading earth. Sentinel uses a beacon to create a massive Space Bridge, his plan is to enslave the humans to rebuild Cybertron. The space bridge is used to teleport Cybertron to planet earth itself.

After that ...well Go and see the movie Transformers : DARK OF THE MOON to find out.
