I don't think so - thought that may depend on the age of the kids. I have read all the Harry Potter novels (several times), and I don't think there is anything inherently evil about them. However, please note that (especially) book 4 and later is a bit dark; it may not be appropriate for small children.

Harry Potter is not a bad movie: in my opinion. But no, you cannot die by watching a long bad movie, you can get extremely bored but not die. well of course you can !
