Haymitch, while something acting tough to Katniss and Peeta, genuinely wants to encourage them. He gives them advice and helps them with strategies.
Haymitch believes Katniss is a stronger competitor because she is very strong-willed and determined. He knows that she will find a way to endure (example- in The Hunger Games, he doesn't send her water because he knows she'll find it in the pond). However, he agrees with Katniss that Peeta is a better speaker who can persuade people well.
i think she feels like it was useless
he think they ratchet...
I think that he represents sacrifice and pessimism, throughout the book. However, I have a feeling that some other people may disagree... I think that he represents secrecy and loneliness.
In the simplest sense, they show him that they are some of the first tributes from district twelve that actually have physical skills and are capable of winning the games. Haymitch then believes they have a chance to be victorious.
The Careers use Peeta to figure out what Katniss' skill was that got her the eleven from the Gamekeepers. The Careers also think that Peeta might know Katniss' whereabouts.

At first you are led to believe that Peeta asks to be coached separately because Katniss scored higher than him with the Gamemakers. Also because of the closeness of The Games. Later you suspect that another reason is because he wanted to talk strategy with Haymitch. Peeta wanted to talk to Haymitch about telling his love for Katniss. After their interviews Katniss is angry because she wasn't told, but Haymitch informs her that it was right that she not know. She needed to act surprised. She's not a good actress so this way she was genuinely surprised.

At the end of Mockingjay, Katniss chooses Peeta.
She doesn't get to see Peeta because Peeta wants to kill her. Peeta was kidnapped by the Capitol and they used trackerjacker venom to corrupt the images of Katniss in Peeta's head so that when he sees her, he will try to kill her.
"Peeta Mellark! Oh no, I think. Not him. Because I recognize this name, although I have never spoken directly to it's owner. Peeta Mellark. No, the odds are not in my favor today." Page 25 (direct quote from book) Katniss is shocked because she recognizes the name, and feels scared because Peeta saved her life before (by giving her the bread) and she is thinking how she will have to fight him in the Hunger Games.
In the Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen or " Jennifer Lawerence" Likes Gale And Peeta i think peeta will be the big one.
