"There's no such thing as a Vulcan Death Grip," even on Star Trek. It was a more severe nerve compression than the unconsciousness-producing Vulcan Nerve Pinch employed regularly on the original series, and in subsequent productions. The Death Grip temporarily suspended detectable life signs.
While such "nerve pinches" exist in real life, they are not performed in the same way. They are much more painful and much less consistently effective than shown in the Trek series.
The "Death Grip" was used by Spock to fake the death of Captain Kirk in the episode "The Enterprise Incident" (September 27, 1968), as part of a plot to steal a Romulan cloaking device.
To simulate the Death Grip
Place the fingers of one hand at random locations around the face of the "victim," and press the face away with the fingers of the other hand. Avoid the eyes and be gentle. It does not really do anything, but if the victim is cooperative, he will slump slowly and soundlessly to the floor.
