You can't. That's the problem! So if the light burns out I guess that's how they get you to buy another lamp but I wasn't about to play into that game so I got out my soldering iron melted a fine line in the shape of a tear drop on the top of the lamp then went back over it poking down into the line which melted all the way through the plastic. Once I got all the way around I stopped so there was only a little bit still attached then I softened it a little and pulled it back (like a little flap) then I was able to get my fingers in there to change the bulb to a 4 watt. After that I softened the end of the flap again to push it back down but it snapped off but no worries cause I just melted the plastic and held it there for about a minute and once its dry it was like new again. Now there will be melted plastic rippling around the shape so you can either try and melt it back down or do what I did...I just ran I glue stick along the plastic and poured three different colors of glitter over the glue (blue, gold, and pink) which look great cause they all match the princesses on the lamp. So now it looks like a little glittery tear drop on the top of the lamp and if I ever need to change it again I just need to melt the little end of the flap. Sometimes you have to come up with creative ideas.
