Mr Miyagi's death is unknown to us as it doesn't mention it in Karate Kid 1, 2 or 3. However, in Cobra Kai series 3, we get to see the letters that he sent to his Japanese lover stating that he knows his time is short.

Just over a year after his death, at the battle of Sekigahara, Ieyasu would win, technical, control of Japan and announce himself Shogun.

Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) was a famous Japanese samurai swordsman. He was well known for his sword fighting skill from a young age and fought numerous duels. He invented the sword fighting style of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu. He was also the author of The Books of Five Rings which is a famous book on tactics, strategy and philosophy and which has been studied ever since.
He is still alive to this day forth.
