Rescuers Down Under
The Disney ID. tag machines can usually be found along Main Street inside the stores. But the ID. machine at Downtown Disney on the Westside is available without having to purchase a ticket to a theme park. Across from Disney's Candy Cauldron the ID. tag machine can be found year round. It is possible one might be found around the World of Disney or the Team Mickey. Once inside a parks or at Downtown Disney, Guest Services can tell you where the ID. machines are located.
"Pluto the Pup" was named for the (now dwarf) planet discovered in 1930, the same year Disney animators gave Mickey Mouse his pet canine. (The dog depiction was used for two bloodhounds in a previous cartoon.)
Pets aren't allowed inside any of the parks, hotels, or buses. But leaving your pet in a hot car in the Florida sun (even with a window cracked) can be fatal. (And is illegal.) Disney has Kennels and pet daycare available. Formerly there were kennel facilities located near the entrance to each of the parks but in September 2010 a new "luxury pet resort" opened on Disney property taking the place of the older facilities. It is located at 2510 Bonnet Creek Parkway across from the Port Orleans Resort at Disney World. The new facility can accommodate dogs and cats as well as more exotic pets such as birds and "pocket pets" such as hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. Day care and multi-day boarding is available. Proof of current vaccinations is required. The facility is run by Best Friends Pet care which has other locations in 19 states. The old kennel facilities at the parks are now closed. Remember it's against the law in FL to leave a pet in a closed vehicle. If you're camping, pets are allowed at a few sites at Ft. Wilderness Campground. The only animals Disney allows inside the parks are service animals, and so far they're not buying into this "companion animal" BS. They mean specifically "any dog or miniature horse trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability".
