Oh, dude, you're hitting me with some poetry from Robert Herrick? That's like bringing a Shakespearean Sonnet to a barbecue. But hey, if you're talking about "Here a Pretty Baby Lies," it's a poem by Herrick about a baby who died young. So, like, it's pretty sad and stuff, but also kinda poetic, you know?
the poem, though short, is one of my favorites. The first three lines are sensual, and white-- delicate and simple. Read them alone, and you can almost see a nursery, and hear a hushing mother while shehands her child a lamb-toy. And then you hit the final line 'Th'easy earth that covers her' and you realize that this child is not asleep. This baby is sleeping in her final resting place, and it immediately stains the rest of the poem. It turns from a lullaby into a Requiem. It turns from a mother's praise to a mother's despair. The poem shocks you as much as it would shock any parent of a still-born or of a child who dies too soon. Robert Herrick writes exactly how you would feel if you were the mother. 3 seconds of beauty, 1 second of pain. a lifetime of reliving, stained with the blood of the last second. You can only read this poem serenly once. After that-- you will always know the baby is dead.

Herrick's "To Daffodils" is a revival of the genre carpe diem. This genre's message is that life is short, and world is beautiful, love is splendid and we must use the short time we live to make the most of it. This is shown in the words "haste", "run", "short" and "quick".
yes it is
